Welcome to the Creuse

Green hills & authentic villages

A region to slow down

Domaine du Bonheur is located in the heart of France, in the department of the Creuse — a region known for its unspoilt nature, lakes, forests and quiet landscapes. It is a place where time seems to slow down, offering space to truly unwind.

Our estate is situated in Moutier-d’Ahun, a charming village that was voted one of the ten most beautiful small villages in France in 2015. Here you will find a remarkable abbey church with finely carved wooden details, as well as an old Roman bridge crossing the river Creuse — a setting that invites you to walk, slow down and enjoy the moment.

The surrounding area is dotted with authentic towns and villages. Guéret, the departmental capital, offers all essential amenities. For a taste of local life, Aubusson is renowned for its tapestry-making tradition, while Felletin is known for its craftsmanship and its lively Friday morning market filled with regional produce.

The Creuse is a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Numerous routes — some starting directly from the estate — wind through forests and along rivers. Even without a map, you can explore endlessly, often without encountering another soul.

In addition to nature and villages, the Creuse is home to several characterful castles and historic sites, such as Boussac, Villemonteix, La Roche and Crozant — an impressive medieval fortress with ruins overlooking the confluence of two rivers.

Those wishing to explore further will find extensive information on the Tourisme Creuse website.

Climate

The climate in the Creuse is temperate oceanic. Although the region is not located on the coast, this mainly means mild temperatures, four distinct seasons and an absence of extreme heat or cold. Rainfall is evenly spread throughout the year, ensuring green landscapes and a pleasant stay in every season.
