  • We stayed in a beautiful cottage, tastefully and very warmly decorated. A wonderful garden offering plenty of privacy and breathtaking views. Mattheu and Corine are friendly and welcoming and gave us plenty of tips about the area. We visited beautiful castles and were recommended some excellent local restaurants. A peaceful, relaxing place — highly recommended, and we will definitely return!

  • We travel to our favorite region, La Creuse, with its stunning landscapes, mountains, and forests. We stayed in the lovely gîte of Mattheu and Corine, Domaine du Bonheur. With views over the valley, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast delivered by Mattheu each morning. A beautiful and clean accommodation, truly recommended for anyone who loves peace and nature.

  • (translated from Dutch) An amazing view! The chalet is located in an orchard, fenced for the dogs, surrounded by sheep, cows, chickens, and rabbits (we only saw the droppings!). It is very quiet, but when the cows break the silence with their mooing, it is a truly special experience — it feels like they are telling a story! A perfect place for those who love calm, space, and nature. We stayed in a new chalet with two bedrooms. It was not large inside, but the outdoor space more than makes up for it. Everything was clean and complete, and the beds were made upon arrival!
There are many beautiful walks to explore (10 routes via Komoot, not yet discovered by the masses). We visited several churches, including one very special one! We had picnics by a lake and enjoyed delicious lunches at each highlight. The owner offers various yoga classes, which my travel companion enjoyed. Absolutely recommended! Soon, painting classes and other fun activities will be offered in collaboration with the villagers. We also considered a French refresher course, which seems feasible.
D’Ahun, a small hamlet in the middle of nowhere… or not quite! Nearby: supermarket, market, bakery, garage, petrol station and electric charging — and for me, importantly, a veterinarian. There are also beautiful lakes to visit, vide-greniers, flea markets and other sights within 40 km. From churches and castles to French dolmens, and charming villages famous for tapestries and artisan crafts. Walking to the village for a 3-course lunch at a bargain… then relaxing by the river La Creuse, where the dogs can swim.
In short: a paradise for humans and animals alike, and affordable even in high season (late July – early August). The owners, Mattheu & Corine, are very hospitable and provide so much information that you’d need at least two weeks to see all the highlights. We only stayed one week, so we had to skip some things… but… We’ll be back! By then, a new accommodation will be ready, and we hope to find our favorite spot again in Bavard, D’Ahun, Creuse.
